Week 8

Back in black

Hello Gamesoc,

You may be a little sluggish to get back after the two week interval but we're jumping right into action bringing you our weekly events as well as some huge treats.

Vaticon

We're less than one week away now from our home convention and preparations are almost complete. This weekend we commandeer the student centre, fill it with games and let 200 people loose to enjoy themselves. The weekend involves board, card, roleplaying, video games as well as a pub quiz and any other amazing thing we can think up.

We understood that some people couldn't afford Gaelcon or Leprecon, we understood that some couldn't afford to take the time off to travel to Cork for warpcon. But with Vaticon being so close and so cheap (the cheapest con in Ireland) there is no excuse.

Wargames & paintball

Cillian our wargames officer has two challenges to pose to you fans or everything warlike. The first is a challenge of skill and tactical prowess. Dare you face him in a battle of wits and luck on the wargaming table? Then come to monday night wargaming. Featuring a plethora of wargaming fancies, from the classics such as warhammer 40K to the lesser known but brilliant warhammer ancient battles. If you are bringing in an army give us a shout and we can keep it safe for you. If not come along as there should be a good few amries to spare.

If tabletop is not your style this second challenge may suit you more.

Paintball-Saturday April 3rd

Raise your guns and train your stealth in our annual manhunt extravaganza. We will be taking names for this all this week and taking money all next week. Details will be finalised tomorrow (monday) and all info will be on our forum and sent out on friday. Get your name in quick as places are limited.

AGM

The committee would like to thank all of those who have shown interest in taking over from us next year. There are a lot of you and it makes us happy to see so many looking to take and active interest. A sheet will be posted in the gamesoc locker this week. If you are interested in running for a committee position have a talk to the current committee member about the position to find out if it's right for you, then get them to open the locker and get two people to propose you. The date for the AGM is going to be Thursday April 22nd. We need a lot of people there to make sure the society continues on next year so please spread the word and keep this date free.

Dice

As there wasn't enough interest in the hoodies to warrant an order we are now looking to see if anyone would be interested in gamesoc dice sets. Probably selling at €5 for a set of branded dice. If interested just let a committee member know.

LAN

And finaly. Our next LAN is set for the 9th of April. So at 4pm that day the coffee morning will end and we will move over to the computer science building for some gun toting, netsoc crushing action. Looks to be a great event.

Misquote of the week:
"Our games are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No game of human destiny is beyond human beings."
- John F. Kennedy.

Hopefully see you all this weekend or over the week.

Gamesoc Auditor
